Arts graduate education is uniquely positioned to deliver many of the public good needs of contemporary Canada. The authors of For the Public Good: Reimagining Arts Graduate Programs in Canadian Universities argue that graduate programs must fundamentally change if they are to achieve this potential. Reformed programs that equip graduates with advanced skills can address Canada’s most vexing challenges and seek action on equity, diversity, inclusion, and decolonization.
The event will open with an introduction from the authors of For the Public Good, Loleen Berdahl, Jonathan Malloy, and Lisa Young. A Q&A will follow with Robert Wood (Dean of Arts), Tracy Raivio (Vice-Provost and Dean, Faculty of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies), and Maren Wood (Beyond the Professoriate), moderated by Jared Wesley (Professor and Associate Dean, Faculty of Arts).
Organizers: University of Alberta Arts, University of Alberta Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, and University of Alberta Press.
Books will be available for sale. Light refreshments will be provided.
Event parking is available at a cost of $5 in the lot next to the University Club (corner of 116 Street and Saskatchewan Drive).
