University of Alberta Press Announces Staff Changes

Edmonton, AB – University of Alberta Press is seeing some staff changes this fall. On November 1, Douglas Hildebrand, Director and Publisher, departs to become the Director of UBC Press. Cathie Crooks, currently Associate Director, will serve as UAlberta Press’s Interim Director and Publisher. Earlier this month, Mat Buntin, Acquisitions Editor, departed to become the Director and Publisher at Wilfrid Laurier University Press

Dale Askey, Vice-Provost (Library and Museums) and Chief Librarian, notes, “There has been a sea change in the Canadian university press landscape recently with the retirement of several directors. The depth of talent at University of Alberta Press is evident, with the selection of Douglas Hildebrand and Mat Buntin to lead two of our publishing peers. We appreciate their critical contributions to the Press and know that they will continue to bring their expertise to enhance scholarly publishing in Canada.”

Douglas Hildebrand told staff, “I have learned so much about leading a university press here and am grateful for the support and expertise of the team. With Cathie Crooks in charge until a new permanent Director is hired, I know I leave the Press in good hands.”

Mat Buntin shared, “University of Alberta Press has always offered authors generous support. The Press’s editorial program continues to benefit from the expertise of Acquisitions Editor Michelle Lobkowicz, and I am eager to follow the list’s positive impacts in the academy and beyond.”
