There are many brilliant people out there who help others discover superb new books. Today, we would like to thank two reviewers who made Poetry Month 2012 really special.
George Fetherling wrote about all of the fine work being done by poets and their Canadian publishers in the Vancouver Sun on April 5. In his wide-ranging article, he showcased the rich textures and polished words available to readers in the latest crop of poetry books.
Shawna Lemay, a wonderful wordsmith herself, took on four new volumes of poetry and gave us a loving and indepth look at Restless White Fields (Barbara Langhorst, NeWest Press); The Little Yellow House (Heather Simeney MacLeod, McGill-Queen’s University Press); Wells (Jenna Butler, University of Alberta Press); and Continuations 2 (Douglas Barbour and Sheila E. Murphy, University of Alberta Press).
We were thrilled when the piece was printed in several newspapers, including the Edmonton Journal, Calgary Herald, Ottawa Citizen, The Province, Windsor Star, Montreal Gazette, and the Leader Post.
We are holding our annual Literary Cocktails as part of the Edmonton Poetry Festival this Thursday. We’ll be sure to raise a glass to Shawna and George. Our thanks to you both.
