This year’s Black History Month theme is “Black Excellence: A Heritage to Celebrate; a Future to Build.” In the spirit of Black Excellence, we celebrate the Black voices in our catalogue at University of Alberta Press. From Wayde Compton to Juliane Okot Bitek, our shelf boasts some of the most outstanding Black voices in Canadian writing today.
We believe books are rich sources of histories and reflections, and we are proud to help build the future of Black Excellence through scholarship. In powerful language, books open the silenced parts of Canadian Black histories and give us a chance to witness diverse Black stories that have been unheard. In books, we find practical knowledge of how Black vulnerabilities, struggles of anti-Black racism, and everyday Black life challenges are navigated.
