Press Director Douglas Hildebrand accepted the award with these words:
An Anthology of Monsters is the story of a life-long dance with anxiety that Cherie Dimaline choreographs with a deeply personal narrative about all the ways in which we tell stories, how those stories elicit difficult and beautiful conversations, and how family and community is a place of refuge and strength. I want to firstly thank Cherie Dimaline for delivering the 2022 CLC Kreisel lecture in which this book is rooted. Cherie’s stories are truly a gift to us all. Thanks also go to Sarah Krotz and her team at the Centre for Literatures in Canada for partnering with us on the Kreisel lectures and allowing us to publish such an incredible group of Canadian authors.
I want to acknowledge with appreciation the work of acquisitions editor Michelle Lobkowicz, production editor Duncan Turner, cover designer Alan Brownoff, as well as other Press staff, Cathie Crooks, Elisia Snyder, and Mat Buntin. We can’t do this without freelance partners, so thanks go out to copyeditor and proofreader Joanne Muzak and interior designer Denise Ahlefeldt, as well as the book’s printer, Houghton Boston. And thanks, of course, to the Book Publishing Association of Alberta and its staff and this wonderful group of publishers as well as to the award jury.
Thank you for trusting us with your words and with your stories.
